Ahmed Musa Returns to Kano Pillars on Short-Term Deal

Former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow Star Rejoins Boyhood Club

Ahmed Musa, former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow forward, has returned to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side Kano Pillars on a short-term deal. The 31-year-old, who began his professional career at Kano Pillars, rejoined the club after a successful football journey that took him across Europe and the Middle East. This development was confirmed by Soccernet.ng.

Homecoming After Global Tour

Musa, once a household name in Nigerian football, first made waves in the NPFL during the 2009/2010 season. He topped the league’s scoring chart with 18 goals, catching the attention of European clubs. His performances earned him a move to the Dutch Eredivisie with VVV Venlo, before a successful period at CSKA Moscow in Russia. He then moved to the English Premier League, joining Leicester City for a brief stint, before heading back on loan to CSKA Moscow.

In the latter stages of his career, Musa ventured to the Middle East, signing for Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr, followed by brief spells at Fatih Karagümrük and Sivasspor in Turkey.

Training Ahead of Matchday Five

Musa was spotted at Kano Pillars’ training ground alongside another Super Eagles veteran, Shehu Abdullahi, as they prepared for the club’s NPFL Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars. Kano Pillars posted about the duo’s participation in training on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:

“Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Nazir Laja, and the rest of the squad trained ahead of NPFL 2024/25 Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars this weekend.”

Shehu Abdullahi Also Rejoins Kano Pillars

Shehu Abdullahi, a Super Eagles right back who had a previous spell with Kano Pillars in 2012, also makes a return to the club. Abdullahi, who was part of Nigeria’s bronze-winning squad at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), brings significant experience to Kano Pillars, both from his time with the national team and his stints abroad.

Special Registration for Veterans

Despite the NPFL transfer window being closed, Kano Pillars will be able to register Musa and Abdullahi as free agents. This allows the team to benefit from the experience and leadership of these two seasoned veterans as they continue their 2024/25 campaign.

Musa’s return to Kano Pillars is seen as a morale boost for the club, as the former NPFL top scorer looks to inspire new generation of players at the club where his journey began.
