New Offensive Targets Banditry in North-West Nigeria
Sokoto, Nigeria – In a bid to restore peace and security to Nigeria’s North-West region, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, and Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, conducted an inspection of a military jet and other facilities at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto. This inspection comes ahead of the launch of a new military operation code-named ‘FANSAR YAMMA.’
The forthcoming campaign is designed to dismantle banditry and other criminal activities plaguing the region. Both leaders assessed the temporary facility provided for the military’s use while awaiting the completion of permanent structures.
After the tour, Governor Aliyu expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking swift measures to tackle the security crisis.
“The deployment of the fighter jet to Sokoto under this new operation signals that the end of banditry in the North-West is near,” the governor declared. “By the grace of Almighty Allah, the days of these criminals are numbered.”
Aliyu urged residents to support the troops and pray for the success of the mission, emphasizing that the combined efforts of the government and military would soon yield results.
‘A Turning Point for Sokoto’
Dr. Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, echoed the governor’s optimism, commending his dedication to the fight against banditry.
“With Governor Aliyu’s unwavering support, the military is better positioned to cleanse Sokoto State of criminal elements,” Matawalle said. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, assuring citizens that their safety remains the government’s top priority.
In a statement released by Governor Aliyu’s Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, the Minister emphasized the importance of public cooperation. He appealed to citizens to assist the military by providing critical intelligence, noting that public engagement would be key to the success of Operation FANSAR YAMMA.
“This fight requires everyone’s participation. With your help, we can bring this chapter of insecurity to a decisive close,” Matawalle said.
The people of Sokoto and the wider North-West region now wait with anticipation, hopeful that this military intervention will finally restore peace to their communities.
