Kano State Vaccinates 225,535 Children in Successful Polio Immunization Campaign

Health authorities in Ungogo Local Government Area surpass vaccination targets

In a major achievement for public health, a total of 225,535 children under the age of five were successfully vaccinated in the just-concluded polio immunization exercise in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State. The milestone was confirmed by Salisu Yakasai, the council’s Information Officer, who reported that the immunization targets had been fully met.

Immunization Coverage Exceeds Expectations

The immunization campaign, aimed at eradicating polio in the region, saw health workers immunizing 225,535 infants and under-five children, ensuring widespread protection against the disease. “During the exercise, 225,535 infants and under-five children were successfully immunized,” Yakasai announced, emphasizing the significance of the achievement.

Health Coordinator Praises Collaboration

Isa Nassarawa, the Primary Health Care Coordinator of Ungogo, lauded the successful implementation of the immunization program while presenting the results to the council’s Acting Chairman, Munzali Alhassan. Nassarawa highlighted the efforts made by health workers and stakeholders in covering the entire local government area. “No child was left out,” Nassarawa noted, commending the diligence of the health teams.

Community Support Key to Success

Munzali Alhassan, the Acting Chairman, attributed the campaign’s success to the collaborative efforts of traditional rulers, parents, and the local community. He praised their active participation in ensuring that all eligible children received the vaccine. “The traditional rulers and parents played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of the programme,” he said.

Alhassan also urged continued support for future health initiatives in the region, stressing that the battle against polio is not over. He called on health personnel to maintain close cooperation with the local task force committee to sustain the momentum in the fight to eradicate polio fully.

Government and NGO Support Acknowledged

Nassarawa further acknowledged the crucial support provided by the current administration and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in ensuring the availability of logistics and other resources needed for the immunization campaign. This support, he said, was essential in enabling health workers to reach every corner of the local government area.

The successful completion of this immunization exercise marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to eliminate polio in Kano State, reinforcing the importance of community collaboration and sustained health initiatives.

The vaccination campaign in Ungogo stands as a testament to the effectiveness of coordinated health programs, with health authorities remaining vigilant to ensure that the gains made are not reversed.
