Nigerian Navy Intercepts Boat Carrying 100,000 Litres of Stolen Crude Oil in Ondo State

Operation at Idiogba-Mahin Coastline
The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda has successfully intercepted a boat loaded with approximately 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil. The operation occurred at the Idiogba-Mahin coastline in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, following actionable intelligence.

Quick Response Team Deployment
Commanding Officer Aliyu Usman, speaking to journalists during an assessment visit on Thursday, revealed that the Navy deployed its Quick Response Team to act on the intelligence. The team successfully intercepted the wooden boat, which was equipped with tools used for illegal bunkering, including discharge hoses and pumping machines.

Perpetrators Flee the Scene
“The perpetrators of the crime fled on sighting the response team,” Usman stated. “In the process, the team intercepted a large wooden boat laden with about 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil, alongside associated accessories such as discharge hoses and pumping machines. The arrested boat was secured, and a sample of the crude oil was taken for laboratory testing.”

Follow-Up Actions and Community Sensitization
Usman noted that the intercepted boat and its contents were handled according to existing directives. Additionally, residents of the surrounding community were sensitized about the dangers and consequences of hosting illegal bunkering activities, particularly regarding environmental and security risks.

Commitment to Curbing Illegal Activities
This operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to tackling illegal oil bunkering and safeguarding the nation’s maritime and environmental resources. The Navy called for greater community cooperation to prevent future occurrences.
